The Summer, in Three Fragrances

Heirloom arrived last Friday, and with it the summer collection is finished. Three fragrances, made across three months, each one holding a different part of the same season.

June. Windows open, the house full of light. Bitter orange peel and sparkling citrus oils, basil and green leaf running underneath, soft white woods holding it steady. The brightest of the three, and the one that still smells like the middle of the day.

July. Hedgerows heavy with fruit and the air warm from the afternoon. Wild blackberry over tangled bramble and green leaf, grounded by soft woods and a trace of musk. A natural, botanical sweetness rather than a confected one, and quietly nostalgic with it.

August. A glasshouse in full growth, warmed through by the sun. Tomato leaf and crushed green stems, green resin and soft herbal notes, moss and woods settling underneath. The greenest thing we have made, and the newest.
